Meet Mrs. Russo

Mrs. Marie Russo joined the Saint John family in August 2021 as the third-grade teacher.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Maryland and has her Maryland state teaching certification. She began her career at her former alma mater in 1994 at St. Joseph’s in Beltsville, Maryland as a second-grade teacher. Later, she was the 4th-grade instructor at St. Mary of the Assumption School in Largo, MD, and received “Teacher of the Year” for 2006. In August 2006, she returned to St. Joseph’s as the 3rd-grade teacher. Mrs. Russo was the “Teacher of the Year” in 2011. She was also chosen as the Archdiocese’s teacher of the week in 2015. In May of 2019, she received the “Golden Apple Award” for Excellence in Teaching from the Archdiocese of Washington. During the 2020-2021 school year, she was a finalist for the “Lead, Learn Proclaim” NCEA award. 

Mrs. Russo thoroughly enjoys the time spent with her students. She feels blessed that she has the opportunity to help them develop a better understanding of their faith and reach their potential as active learners and critical thinkers.

Mrs. Russo has been married for sixteen years and has one daughter. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and experiencing new adventures.
