Important Dates, Events and Reminders

Friday, August 23 – Meet the Teacher and Used Uniform Sale

This day provides you and your child the opportunity to meet teachers, visit classrooms and drop off classroom supplies. The classrooms will be open for visits between 1-3 pm.

The Uniform Sale will also take place between 1-3 pm. Uniform Dress Code Our school uniform exemplifies students’ pride in being a part of the St. John Community. We firmly believe that having all students wear a school uniform creates a sense of belonging. By showing that we expect high standards with our uniform, expectations are raised and students respond with better behavior and better results in the classroom. Please note that the uniform policy will be strictly enforced this year.

It is now time to update your child’s Demographic Page in Powerschool. These updates are a vital part of our crisis plan so please take the time to log into PowerSchool and make the updates online before August 26. For families with multiple children, each child will need to be updated. Please ensure to click submit after completion of each page. The website to access this information is arlingtondiocese.powerschool.com.

If you have PowerSchool forgotten your login information, please email Lauren Karhoff at lkarhoff@sjesva.org.

New families will be provided log in information on Friday, August 24 at Meet the Teacher.

Immunizations

Virginia law requires that new students and students enrolling in kindergarten provide updated documentation of the Commonwealth of Virginia School Health Form signed by a health care official. Additionally, in accordance with the immunization requirements for the State of Virginia, all 7th grade students must receive a Tdap booster before returning to school in the fall. Please be aware that providing documentation of immunization is a necessary condition for enrollment. Should you have any questions about immunization requirements, please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Catts at mcatts@sjesva.org.

Cafeteria

Campus Cuisine offers lunch service for St. John the Evangelist Catholic School. They provide specialties from local restaurants which includes the following restaurants: Subway, Chick-fil-a, Ledo’s Pizza and Pasta, Panera Bread and Domino’s. You will need to set up your child(ren) with campus cuisine to place orders and for those who have used this program in the past you will need to go in and update your child’s information. All orders/changes need to be placed by 12:00 pm the day before.

Our cafeteria also offers chocolate milk, 2% white milk and apple juice and water. The order form is attached.

We also offer ice cream daily in our cafeteria which ranges from $.50-$2.00 which can be purchased daily. Money for ice cream is the only cash accepted in the cafeteria.

Also, we feel it is important for all students to eat a well-rounded meal at lunchtime. If your child forgets a lunch and does not remember until lunch time, he/she will be provided with a Forgotten Lunch. A Forgotten Lunch contains: milk or water, peanut butter and jelly or cheese sandwich, single serving of applesauce or fruit cup and a string cheese stick. We will notify you that your child received a “Forgotten Lunch” notice. Please have your child return the notice to the school office, along with the $4.00 payment.

Extended Day

Since all students must sign into Extended Day if not picked up in carpool, we ask that ALL families complete this form

Pickup Authorization

Please complete the Pick Up Authorization. Please note, any person not listed on the form will not be permitted to pick-up your child without written permission.

Background Checks – Policies for School Parent Volunteers

As part of the diocesan initiative to maintain a safe environment for our children, all volunteers with “substantial contact” with children are required to complete a background check prior to working in the school and to complete a four hour VIRTUS training session. This includes parents who wish to attend field trips or volunteer in support of classroom activities. Parents are encouraged to complete the online Arlington Diocese Background Check promptly.
